TDA Meeting Speakers

The 2017 TDA Meeting speakers panel will feature experts from the national dental and business communities presenting on a variety of cutting-edge topics. 

Jay Adkins, DDS, received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the Baylor College of Dentistry in Dallas and his undergraduate degree from Texas Tech University. Dr. Adkins has served on the TDA Board of Directors, committees within the State Board of Dental Examiners and in the ADA House of Delegates. Dr. Adkins is a Fellow of the International College of Dentists and American College of Dentists.

Linda Altenhoff, DDS, retired after 17+ years of service with the State of Texas serving as the Chief Dental Officer for OIG, State Dental Director for DSHS, and as a Medicaid dental provider. She is currently the Associate Dental Director for Texas with MCNA Dental. She’s held leadership positions in national dental organizations and has presented at national, state, local, and academic dental meetings.

Joshua Austin, DDS, FAGD, FACD, is a published author and lectures nationally on restorative dentistry and reputation management. He has a monthly column and weekly e-Newsletter in Dental Economics, the most read dental magazine in the world.

Jean Bainbridge, DDS, received her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University Of Missouri School Of Dentistry in and Kansas City and her undergraduate degree from the University of Kansas. Dr. Bainbridge has served as the President of Dallas County Dental Society, the TDA Board of Directors, ADA and TDA House of Delegates and the ADA Council on Membership. Dr. Bainbridge is a Fellow of the International College of Dentists and the American College of Dentists.

Bradley Bale, MD, is an Adjunct Professor at Texas Tech Health Science Center, Medical Director of the Heart Health Program at Grace Clinic, Lubbock, Texas and Co-founder of Bale/Doneen Method. Marco Brindis, DDS, is an Assistant Professor of Dentistry at LSUHSC School of Dentistry in the department of Prosthodontics. His interests include implants and esthetics research, clinical high esthetics, and working interdisciplinarily with team delivering the maximum possible quality of dentistry. He lectures nationally and internationally on dental implants and esthetics.

Shannon Brinker CDA, CDD, is a faculty member at the Dawson Academy, instructing through both lectures and hands on programs. She is an active member of the AACD and serves as a board member for their New Member Committee.

Lillian Caperila, RDH, BSDH, M.Ed, has over 40 years in dentistry, and has practiced as an expanded dental assistant, dental hygienist and faculty instructor in the Philadelphia area. Anthony R. Cardoza, DDS, practices general and laser dentistry in Santee, California, as well as forensic dentistry in San Diego and Imperial Counties.

Timothy J. Caruso, MBA, MS, PT is a practicing physical therapist who is nationally known as a professional speaker who has worked extensively with dental professionals since 1988 in the areas of ergonomics, injury prevention, productivity, exercise, and wellness.

Bryce Chandler, DDS, MAGD, FICOI , was an associate professor of the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. He is a general dentist/owner of a private practice in San Antonio with advanced training in Functional Occlusion. Active Mentor and Graduate of the Kois Center in Seattle.

David Clark, DDS, lectures and gives hands-on seminars internationally on a variety of topics related to microscope-enhanced dentistry. Harold Crossley, DDS, MS, PhD, is Professor Emeritus at the University of Maryland Dental School, has co-authored a number of articles and 4 books dealing with a variety of topics within the field of pharmacology.

Karen Davis, RDH, BSDH, delivers the timely and effective messages dental industry members need to succeed in today’s world. She is also a practicing dental hygienist in Dallas, Texas. Michael DiTolla, DDS, FAGD, practices within the largest lab in the US. Amy L. Doneen DNP, ARNP, co-founded the Bale/Doneen Method, a precision based program that is proven to halt and regress arterial disease. Robert Edwab, BS, DDS, MBA, is a board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon who has been in private practice for over 30 years. He has lectured on basic oral surgery for the general practitioner at many of the largest dental meetings, both nationally and internationally. He also is Executive Director of the Greater New York Dental Meeting.

Alex Fleury, DDS, MS, currently serves as Assistant Professor at Baylor College of Dentistry, working with Endodontic Residents. He also served on the Scientific Advisory Board of the Journal of Endodontics, and as well serves as the Director of Educational Resources for Real World Endodontics. Gregory Folse, DDS, has a mobile, geriatric dental practice that provides comprehensive dental treatment to 2500 nursing facility residents where he is a master of geriatric dentistry and denture care. Carlos Garcia, DMD, serves as dental director for MCNA Dental of Texas and has been in private practice for over 40 years.

Renee’ Graham, RDH, MA Ed, is the Southeast Clinical Educator for DENTSPLY Professional. Prior to joining DENTSPLY, Renee held the position of Director of Dental Programs at Valdosta Technical College in Valdosta, Georgia. Renee’ received a dental hygiene degree from Darton College and both a Bachelor of Science in Education and a Master of Education degree from Valdosta State University. David Grogan, DDS, MSD, graduated from the Baylor College of Dentistry in 1981. He continued his post graduate training and received his Certificate and MSD degree in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery from Baylor College of Dentistry in 1986. He is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and at the Texas A&M University System Health Science Center in Dallas, Texas.

Theresa Groody, MEd, EFDA, CD, teaches at Harcum College, where she is the Director of Professional Studies. She was appointed to fill the newly created EFDA position on the Pennsylvania State Board of Dentistry. She conducts site visits for assisting programs across the country and lectures on Expanded Functions locally and nationally.

Manor Haas, DDS, MS, FRCD, is a certified specialist in endodontics in Toronto, Canada. He is extensively involved in continuing education to dentists and has lectured and offered workshops internationally. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada and is on staff at the University Of Toronto Faculty Of Dentistry and the Hospital for Sick Children.

Brooks Haney, DDS, is proud to have completed the continuum at the prestigious
L. D. Pankey Institute for Advanced Dental Education. He has studied with leaders in the fields of cosmetic dentistry and restorative dentistry.

Tommy Harrison, DDS, MBA, received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the Baylor College of Dentistry in Dallas and his undergraduate degree from Texas Tech University in Lubbock. In addition, he has also earned his MBA from Texas Tech University. Dr. Harrison has served as President of the Greater Houston Dental Society, President of the Texas Dental Association and in the ADA House of Delegates. Dr. Harrison is a Fellow of the International College of Dentists and the American College of Dentists.

Frank Higginbottom, DDS, holds the faculty position of Associate Clinical Professor in the Departments of Oral Surgery and Prosthodontics, and has made a weekly commitment to work with dental residents in Baylor’s Clinic. He also holds a position at University of Texas Health Science Center, lectures nationally and internationally, and has had several articles published in dental literature. Maria Howell, DDS, maintains a Clinical Professor academic appointment in the Department of Restorative Dentistry at the University of Texas Health Science Centerv Dental School in San Antonio.

Michaell Huber, DDS, received his dental degree from The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, Dental School. He continued with postgraduate training in Oral Medicine and Maxillofacial Radiology at the National Naval Dental Center, Bethesda, Maryland and received a Certificate in Oral Medicine in 1988. Upon his retirement from the U.S. Navy in 2002, he joined the faculty in the Department of Dental Diagnostic Science at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.

Jonathan James, DDS, is originally from Covington, Louisiana, about 30 miles north of New Orleans. He obtained his Bachelor of Science in biology from Grambling State University in 1995 and his Doctorate of Dental Surgery from Marquette University School of Dentistry in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in 2000. After practicing for seven years in Dallas, Texas, Dr. James relocated to Harlingen, Texas in 2007 to join the Rio Vista Dentistry team of which he is now a co-owner.

Pat Little, DDS, FAGD, CFE, is a leading dental continuing education lecturer, consultant and author, who offers a unique viewpoint due to his experiences in both the dental and accounting professions. Stanley Malamed, DDS, joined the faculty of the Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry of U.S.C., in Los Angeles, in 1973, where today he is Professor of Anesthesia & Medicine. Jana Mannen, RDH, MSDH, is a former Clinical Assistant Professor at The University of Texas School of Dentistry at Houston and currently works as a full-time clinical dental hygienist. She has published articles in peer-reviewed dental hygiene journals.

Judy Kay Mausolf, owner and president of Practice Solutions Inc., is a dental practice management coach, speaker and author. She coaches dental teams who want to be better leaders, work together better, deliver service with more focus and passion and ultimately grow their practice.

Edwin “Mac” McDonald, III, DDS, FAGD, attended the University of Texas Dental Branch at Houston, is a Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry and the International College of Dentists.   He is a visiting faculty member at the Pankey Institute, Spear Education and is a nationally-known speaker. Diane Millar, RDH, MA, graduated from the West Los Angeles College dental hygiene program in 1981. Stephen C. Mills, DDS, his interests in sports dentistry, dental injuries and their prevention has led to his connection to the Academy of Sports Dentistry where he has served as a board member. Edward Pavlik, DDS, MS, ABFO, has served as chief consultant in forensic odontology in Will County for the Coroner’s Office and the Sheriff’s Police Criminal Investigation Division. He lectures in the fields of bite marks and mass disasters and is nationally recognized for heading the dental identification teams in the John Wayne Gacy mass murder case and the American Airlines Flight 191 air crash.

Steve Perlman, DDS, MScD, DHL, is a Clinical Professor of Pediatric Dentistry at The Boston University Goldman School of Dental Medicine. For the past 35 years, he has devoted much of his private practice as well as his teaching, to the treatment of children and adults with physical and intellectual disabilities.

Chris Salierno, DDS, received his DDS from SUNY Stony Brook School of Dental Medicine. He completed his formal training at Stony Brook Hospital’s General Practice Residency program where he focused on implant prosthetics. He is the current editor of Dental Economics Magazine.

David Senn, DDS, Clinical Assistant Professor, University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UTHSCSA), Dental School, Department of Comprehensive Dentistry. He is Director of C.E.R.F., the Center for Education and Research in Forensics and Director of the Southwest Symposium on Forensic Dentistry at UTHSCSA. He is chief Forensic Odontologist for the Bexar County Medical Examiners Office, Director of the Bexar County Forensic Dental Team, and a member of the National Disaster Medical Disaster Team, DMORT region VI.

Gary Schwarz, DDS, MSD, is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, and a fellow of the American College of Oral Implantologists. He has published several articles in the field, and is a director of the Seattle Study Club in the Rio Grande Valley. He was also a founding member of Dentists Who Care, a charitable dental organization formed to deliver care to indigent patients in the Valley.

Jack Shirley, DDS, has extensive postgraduate training and experience in occlusion, the treatment of complex dental cases, and cosmetic dentistry. His expertise has placed him on the speakers’ podium at many dental meetings, and he trains other dentists in the art of fine dentistry that lasts.

Jerald Simmons, MD, is Triple Board-Certified by the American Board of Clinical Neurophysiology, American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, & American Board of Sleep Medicine. He is the Founding-Director of Comprehensive Sleep Medicine Associates, PA (CSMA), with locations in The Woodlands, the Houston Medical Center and Sugar Land, Texas. He is also the Founding-Director of the Sleep Education Consortium, Inc., a 501 (c) 3, non-profit organization that focuses on enhancing the education of doctors and the community on sleep disorders.

Pam Smith, RDN, is a passionate speaker, and presents throughout the country — at corporate meetings, association conferences, seminars and community events. In addition, she has been the Festival Host for Epcot’s International Food & Wine Festival since 1996, and has also hosted TV shows for America’s Health Network, Fox, and the Do-It-Yourself Network.

Todd Snyder, DDS, AAACD, lectures both nationally and internationally on numerous aspects of dental materials, techniques, and equipment. He has been on the faculty at U.C.L.A. and is currently on the faculty at Esthetic Professionals. He has authored numerous articles in dental publications and published a book on contemporary restorative and cosmetic dentistry.

Elizabeth Somer, MA, RD, is author of several books, including her most recent book Eat Your Way to Sexy, as well as Age-Proof Your Body, Food & Mood, Nutrition for Women, and The Origin Diet. She is an Advisory Board member to Shape Magazine and Editor in Chief of Nutrition Alert, a newsletter that summarizes the current research from more than 6,000 journals.

Gregory Stoute, DMD, MPH, is currently the Dental Director of Quality and Compliance for DentaQuest. He has practiced general dentistry for over 40 years, including privately in Dallas, Houston and New Jersey. He completed a Faculty Fellowship in Geriatric Dentistry and Dental Care Administration and a Master in Public Health from Harvard University.

Karen Troendle, DDS, is a professor in the Department of Comprehensive Dentistry at the University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio. She has over 35 years of teaching experience in prosthodontics and restorative dentistry.

Pilar Valderrama, DDS, completed her training in periodontics at the University of T exas Health Science Center at San Antonio where she also obtained a Master’s degree in Clinical Investigation. She received her dental degree from the School of Dentistry at the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, Columbia. She has worked in private practice, dental education, and research. She is board certified in periodontics and an ITI fellow, as well as a fellow in the International College of Dentists.

Thomas Viola, RPh, CCP, is a member of the faculty of 7 dental hygiene and dental assisting programs, as well as several national board exam review courses. He is a contributor to numerous dental professional journals, with columns appearing regularly in AGD Impact and RDH Magazine.

Brenda Walker is the Regional Director for Provider Relations for DentaQuest Texas and Colorado. She is a Lean Six Sigma Certified Green Belt with extensive experience as a business analyst and administrator for state-sponsored programs.

Bradford Williams, DDS, is currently a Senior Instructor for the American Orthodontic Society. He teaches Basic and Advanced Straight Wire Orthodontics for General Practitioners and he is a Diplomate for the AOS. He is also a member of the ADA, ODA, Tulsa County Dental Society, the International Congress of Implantologists, the American College of Oral Implantology and is a gold member of the J. Thomas Wilson, DDS, has taught his innovative techniques to colleagues around the world. He is the author of numerous professional publications and books on periodontics and implant dentistry. He also is a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio Dental School and Baylor University College of Dentistry and has served as editor-in-chief of an international dental journal. .

Karl Woodmansey, DDS, MA, is Associate Professor and Director of Graduate Endodontics at Saint Louis University. He also serves as a member of the U.S. Air Force Reserve Dental Corps, assigned to Little Rock A.F.B. As a Lieutenant Colonel, he is a “Diplomate” of the American Board of Endodontics.
